Jonathan Kellerman Keeps it Honest in Latest TRUE DETECTIVES

I believe that BILLY STRAIGHT was the first Jonathan Kellerman book I bought and read, and it only took that one book to hook me and make me a life-long fan. I love the way Kellerman writes and involves the reader so you feel like you are right there with the character whether it is Alex Delaware or one of the many other characters he has created. The setting itself becomes an integral part of his books and it is no different in TRUE DETECTIVES. Here Jonathan Kellerman has once again created an action filled conflict that has the emotional details that make the twists and the turns in the dramatic narrative something that could be believable and exciting!

In BONES, Jonathan Kellerman gave the reader two marvelous characters in Aaron Fox and Moses (Moe) Reed. With the same mother but different fathers, these two have chosen similar paths in life and yet they are as different as night and day, salt and pepper, private eye and LAPD detective. While Aaron remains the typical GQ man even in his work, Moses is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get guy! Normally, these two half brothers are not working together but a certain young lady brings them together but not in the way you might think.

When Caitlin Frostig, a seemingly perfect 20 year old coed, disappears, her father hires Fox to find her and to Aaron that not only means solving a case but also a lucrative paycheck. For Detective Reed, it is his job but still a mystery that even calls for help from fellow detective Milo Sturgis and the psychological training of the famous Alex Delaware, although we don't see as much of these two as we would like in this mystery. While it seems like there aren't any leads, both men are determined to find this young woman who is the model student with just two men playing important roles in her life. One is her father and the other is her seemingly decent, upstanding boyfriend, Rory Stoltz. While Dad would seem to be more of a suspect, as the single father, with a brooding character and surly attitude, it is the boyfriend for some reason that draws their attention.

The cast of characters that Aaron and Moses encounter reads like a who's who of the seedier side of Hollywood. With the likes of filmmaker Len Dement (come on now, is that a real name?) and name dropping especially of designer everything, Hollywood is what everyone who doesn't live there think it really is. Moe and Aaron find out the Rory Stoltz was actually a personal assistant for an actor named Mason Book (I SAID is that a real name?) who supposedly is said to have unsuccessfully attempted suicide just after Caitlin Frostig went missing. One would think with the expert writing of Jonathan Kellerman and this background for a mystery that TRUE DETECTIVES would have these two half-brothers finally getting together with some great chemistry to solve this crime.

However, I think that this is not the case, at least for those who follow Kellerman regularly and who know how well his characters-ex: Alex Delaware/Milo Sturgis---can be in sync with one another. I found a good deal of the story hard to believe, and the characters didn't quite jell for me as Kellerman characters normally do. Still it was a book I wanted to finish to see how it turned out but I think even at the end, I was disappointed in the conclusion. Here's to admitting that even the best of us can have a not so brilliant day and there will be better things to come! With Jonathan Kellerman, that is a given.

Who Will Win? Pacquiao Or De La Hoya?

December 6 is going to be one of the most abstract and anticipated fight of the year. This will be the day that Oscar De la Hoya will face off against the pride of the Philippines, Manny Paquaio. This fight has over $134 million dollars set up for this fight. Also, it will be Paquaio's highest pay of his career.

Coming up to this fight we think, "Why doesn't De la Hoya face off with Antonio Margarito?" We have heard this common question over and over again. The problem is that De la Hoya wants to avenge all the Mexicans that Paquaio has beaten. Who is really going to believe something like that?

Of course Manny is the best Pound for Pound fighter in the world, but I think that Paquaio should really offer a rematch to Juan Manuel Marques. That is what is interesting people right now.

De la Hoya, on the other hand, should have kept his promise that he was going to fight the winner of the Margarito/Cotto battle. Unfortunately, he knows what Margarito might do to him, so he has done what Mayweather and Shane Mosley did a couple of years ago. He practically said, "No way. Not that guy!!"

Any who, let us get on to the fact and opinions on who will win this fight, shall we? Manny Paquaio has one of the fastest hands in boxing. He knows how to use his feet very well and is a pretty big banger. But a question comes to our mind. Because Manny is moving up two weight classes, will he still have the same speed? He has proved to us that he kept his speed when he went against David Diaz in his Lightweight debut, but that was just recently. We still want to know if the major difference in weight classes will affect Paquaio. Other than that, I can see Paquaio coming off with a decision win.

Oscar De la Hoya, well we know what he can do. We have seen him in the past and he was a great champion in six different weight classes. Out of all that he has done in his career, he still has that decent chin of his. I am a real fan of Oscar De la Hoya, but I do not think that he will be able to pull of a win in this fight. The only way that it think that he will be able to win is by pressuring Paquaio and doing what he did to Steve Forbes. In that fight, Forbes had the speed but his punches wouldn't land because De la Hoya had all that reach with him. So the only way that De La Hoya will win is for him to use his size and five inch reach he has over Paquaio.

But as of now, I really see Manny coming out with a victory here.

The Real Deal With Long Island Wet Basements

Any home that you've got can have a wet basement and there are generally two reasons for this; even if you buy the house in an upscale area like Long Island in New York, water can find its way in from two primary sources. The first of these is surface water which includes run off and melted snow. The second type of water that can adversely affect your basement is groundwater. Groundwater can come from a high water table or an underground spring or stream. These problems generally show themselves inside the home in the form of a wet basement that your inspector will detect.

Even if you have a water problem in your basement, that doesn't mean that the basement will be wet all the time. A home inspector will look for clues, and one of these will be in the shape of any furniture sitting on the basement floor. For example, an old wooden chair that sits on the basement floor but shows no signs of water damage usually means the basement doesn't leak. However, if everything is raised up or sits on wooden planks there is a reason to be suspicious.

One of the best places to look for water damage is on unfinished basement walls as they provide clues like water stains or peeled paint. Often, a white salt deposit will be left on the wall which is indicative of previous water damage. While these are the kinds of things that your inspector will point out, it's a good idea that every new homeowner know something about water damage.

It's a good idea to check under appliances which may leak water as well. Check for water stains or rust under the stairs, the furnaces and hot water heaters, behind the laundry tubs, and in cupboards in cold storage rooms. Remember, there's a difference between the water left on the floor from a leaking humidifier and the walls. A finished basement presents a different set of problems when looking for water damage.

Here, you will need to look at the bottom of paneling for dark streaks. Another sign to watch for is rust around nail heads and electrical outlets. As well, you and the home inspector may find cracks in the basement floor. Often, these are due to water below the basement floor and do not affect the structural integrity of the house.

It should be noted that some moisture is found in most Long Island basements. Usually, the source is surface water. As is the case with many other problems, the best solution is to attack the situation at its source and find remedies to change the course of the offending surface water. Often, this will mean that the homeowner needs to change the slope of the land surrounding the house, and this can be done by the procedure known as grading.

How to Buy Residential Real Estate

So you wish to become a homeowner. Good for you. Real estate is, for most people, the biggest financial investment they will ever make. But there are a number of important issues to consider so that your purchase is good for both your lifestyle and your pocket.

And it's something you can do successfully if you take some well-known and proven steps. Here are a few vital pointers.

Know your limit

Buying your house should be a wonderful experience. One perfect way to make it so is to not pay too much or borrow too much. Get that right and you are well on your way to being a successful homeowner.

Your method of paying is made up of two things - your deposit and your loan. If you have a large deposit then you will have a smaller loan. And the smaller your loan, the quicker you can pay off your mortgage.

Work out what you can repay every month. Take into account who is paying. If there are two people contributing to the repayments, think about the possibility one of you losing your job or stopping work to have a family.

Your lender will have rules about the upper limit of your borrowing depending on your savings and income. Find out your top price and don't bid for anything higher. It doesn't matter how much you fall in love with a property, if its price is too high, it's not for you. Of course if you can talk the vendor down then that's great but remember to know your limit.

Your deposit

This is often called the down payment and it's your share of the purchase price. The rest comes from your lender, usually a bank. Can you buy a house with a zero down payment? Yes. Is it a wise thing to do? In many cases definitely not and you'll see why if you look at the sub-prime housing crisis in recent times. Try and make your deposit as high as possible but do not borrow it. Not from another lender and especially not from relatives or friends.

Remember that your chances of getting a loan, a mortgage for your dream home, are better if you have a decent deposit and on top of that, you'll get a better deal with your loan. The bank will see you as a good risk.

Extra costs

These just bob up when you may think your financial business is all done and dusted. Some of these extras include

• Fee to the bank for raising the mortgage
• Costs to a surveyor
• Legal fees to your lawyer
• Registering the title deeds

You need to plan for these costs before you arrange your mortgage. Find out what these costs amount to and either have a cash reserve to pay them or factor them into your mortgage. Mind you the lender may increase your interest rate by say.25% if they cover your extras so there is always a possible down side. The point being that you must be aware of these charges and allow for them in your overall budget.

Of course there are many other issues involved in buying a house but if you follow the tips above, you are well on the way to buying your dream home and buying well.

Hey Arnold ep Helga on the Couch PT 3

Hey Arnold! is an American animated television series that aired from October 7, 1996 until June 8, 2004 on Nickelodeon. The show stars 4th-grader Arnold, who lives with his grandparents Phil and Gertrude, proprietors of the Sunset Arms boarding house. In each episode, Arnold often helps a schoolmate solve a personal problem, or encounters a predicament of his own. Hey Arnold! takes place in the fictional American city of Hillwood. Craig Bartlett stated in an interview that the city on the show is based on large northern cities, including Seattle (his hometown), Portland, Oregon (where he went to art school) and New York City (from which many landmarks were borrowed).[1] Bartlett, having grown up in Seattle, bases many of the show's events on his own experience growing up in the city. The Pig War mentioned in the episode with the same title took place on the boundary between what is now the State of Washington and British Columbia. The overpass above Arnold's house is possibly the Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle. In many first-season episodes and later, the Brooklyn Bridge is seen as a prominent landmark in the city. Other episodes show an overview of Arnold's neighborhood, with the New York City skyline in the horizon, complete with the Empire State Building, Central Park and World Trade Center, suggesting that Hillwood could be a neighborhood in Brooklyn or Queens. Also according to a list of public elementary schools in New York City PS 118 is a school in St. Albans ...

New York City Real Estate - More Than A Great Home

New York City living opens the door to more than just a great home. It's an all-encompassing lifestyle that often includes world class entertainment, museums, restaurants, and spas. The lifestyle that can be found by living in New York City cannot be found any place else.

Boredom is a not word that is used in New York City. You can always find something to do, some form of entertainment. For the theatre lover, there is Broadway. You can see a show that has been running for years or one that has just opened. During the holidays, you can ice-skate around the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center or walk through the streets to see all the Christmas windows. You can go to a live taping of a talk show or to a concert at one of the city's many venues. And since the city never sleeps, you can always find exciting night life.

If you want to escape to a quiet, intellectual setting, New York City is still the right place for you. The Big Apple is filled with world class museums of all kinds; whether it be museums that display art, history, technology, and more. There's so many to choose from. You can find a museum to interest everyone, no matter what their likes and hobbies are. In addition to museums, you can also escape to the many zoos, aquariums, parks and gardens.

There's no other place in the world that has such a diverse menu of food to choose from. You can find restaurants that specialize in any type of cuisine. Since NYC is a culture "melting pot", you can taste food from around the world. You can find it all in New York. Whether you want to go out to a fancy dinner with a date or grab a $2 slice of pizza on your way home from work, both will probably be the best you have ever had.

When the excitement has started to leave you feeling tired, you can relax at one of the city's many spas. New York City spas are one of the best ways to simply relax and unwind. You can find some of the finest spas in the world and receive the most luxurious, unique treatments. There's a reason why people from all over the world flock to NYC.

With everything that New York City has to offer, from the excitement to the relaxation, there is no better place to live. Opening a door to a new home in New York City opens the door to a new lifestyle, a lifestyle that is like no other.

NY Anesthesiologist Uses Syringes Twice! Hepatitis Found

An anesthesiologist in New York has recently been found to have used the same syringe to inject medication into different patients. As a result of this breach of infection control, two of his patients have contracted hepatitis.

How could this happen in today's day and age? Here's an apparently well-trained physician who claimed, according to his PR person's statement that "He was unaware that what he was doing was incorrect." Give me a break. It's common knowledge that you don't re-use needles, and you certainly don't re-use syringes. Why would anyone re-use a syringe? It makes no sense.

Here's how it happened, according to the New York State Department of Health:
The anesthesiologist used a clean needle and syringe to obtain medicine from a vial. The medicine was injected into patient #1. The anesthesiologist removed the needle and then replaced the needle onto the syringe that he had used for patient #1. He then sticks the new needle and old syringe into the original medicine vial he used for patient #1. He then injects medicine into patient #2.

After an investigation by the department of health, they determined that a trace amount of patient #1's bodily fluids likely ended up in the syringe after the first injection. When this doctor inserted the new needle and old syringe into the old medicine vial, it likely contaminated it with patient #1 blood. The tainted medicine vial was then used to inject other patients.

Infection control is critical to preventing errors such as this one where two patients suffered hepatitis from this doctor's improper infection control. The doctor claims that he was cleared by the Department of Health, and given remedial instruction on how to use these 'multi-use' vials.

However, when looked at from a legal point of view, and not from a Department of Health regulation point of view, one could certainly argue that there was a departure from good medical care that resulted in significant harm (the hepatitis) to the patient.

I'll leave it to the politicians to point fingers at the New York State Department of Health and the Nassau County Department of Health about why they didn't notify this doctors' patients two years ago about the possibility they may have contracted hepatitis from this improper procedure.

Importantly, if you believe you contracted hepatitis or other infectious disease from improper infection control, you should contact an experienced New York medical malpractice lawyer immediately.

How Hip Hop Clothing is Beating the Recession

Hip hop clothing continues to inspire new trends in the fashion world. Once though of as a passing fad like the rap music that inspired it, the growth and expansion of urban wear continues to marvel skeptics across the globe. In fact, many skeptics who once criticized it have now joined the trend by not only marketing but manufacturing it as well.

With the recession hitting many brick and mortar retailers as well as online marketers the saving grace that has helped many survive has been the latest hip hop fashion items they stock. "This is a market that sees no end in sight," says Saul Levine, a marketing consultant located in the hip hop clothing capital Brooklyn, New York. This trend has grown far beyond what anyone had envisioned. Think about it, this is a fashion trend invented by chance, by necessity or both by youngsters in the Brooklyn and Bronx ghettos. Now it has quickly grown to engulf, influence and dominate every fashion trend it's come up against for the past 10 years.

Now every major fashion house claws to get or maintain market share for their urban wear line. Think about it, where else does a product have hundreds of individuals endorsers (rappers) who indirectly market your products every time they appear before millions. In turn these million of rabid fans not only hang on their every word or rap lyric, they analyze, memorize and examine every stitch of clothing they wear from head to toe. Is it any wonder why or how this market has grown so fast and continues to grow.

Add another element such as video and you can see how this industry has grown so fast in so little time. Now you can find people wearing hip hop clothing in all 4 corners of the globe, from China to Chile, from the hottest climates to the coldest. Where's the end to all of this, I'll let you know when I find it. Peace!

10 Must Do Things in New York City

If you happen to be visiting the beautiful and cosmopolitan city of New York, here is a list of ten things that you should not miss out on doing.

1. If visiting New York City, you just cannot afford to miss the 3-hour Full Island cruise which passes by the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, Ellis Island, the United Nations, the George Washington Bridge and Yankee Stadium among others. If time is a constraint, the 2-hour Semi-Circle or Sunset/Harbour Lights Cruise and the 1-hour Seaport Liberty are also excellent options.

2. Home to hundreds of sea animals, the New York Aquarium must be visited, especially by visitors who have children with them. Highlights of this fun filled attraction are performances by Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphins and California sea lions at the Aqua-theatre.

3. The New York Skyride, a short motion-flight-simulation sightseeing tour of New York at the Empire State Building is a must-see and must-do for children and adults.

4. Attend wine-tasting classes that will teach wine lovers everything from how to sample and appreciate a wine to the factors of pairing it with the right cheese. This is a good way to make your holiday to New York not just fun but educational.

5. A ride on the Horse-drawn Carriages at the entrance of the park at 59th Street and Central Park South is something most tourists would love doing. However, at $50 per hour, it is not for everyone.

6. Have a night on the town at one of the many nightclubs in New York City. The city's nocturnal activities are much talked about and are a must attend.

7. New York is full of specialty restaurants serving all sorts of cuisine from French to Japanese, Italian, Indian and Mediterranean to Thai dishes. Visit one of these restaurants to sample your favourite cuisine gourmet style.

8. Go shopping in New York as the city is a paradise for shoppers. New York has a platter of assorted goods to satisfy all tastes, whether it is bric-a-brac from junk sales at flea markets or designer shoes at Prada, luxurious rugs at ABC Carpets, or Department stores like Bloomingdale's, New York city has it all.

9. Watch the Yankees. Visitors should take maximum advantage of a trip to New York between April and October, by ensuring they watch the Yankees at the Yankee Stadium which is second only to the Coliseum in Rome. It is wise to book a ticket in advance.

10. Walking tours and Bike tours are a great way to enjoy the charming city of New York. An experience that can leave you feeling charged, as it combines exercise with fun and allows you to enjoy the freedom of creating your own customized tour of New York.

Helping Others and How it Helps You Feel Good About Yourself

I was born with the helping-others gene, and now at almost 66 years old (and that is very hard for me to say...66 years old, when I feel so young!) I am looking back at my life and am seeing that a big part of it was spent helping others. There have been many instances that I have very vivid memories of. I remember when I was in public school, (I do not remember exactly what age I was) but I remember this part of the story as if it was yesterday. I even remember the persons' name I am referring to; it was Howard Schulman. He and his mom had moved around the corner from where we lived in Brooklyn, New York. Howard was tall and gawky that is how I remember him. He was very nice, very smart, but not very athletic. And there is where the difference was between him and me. I was a very good athlete. It made no difference what the sport was... I was good at it. I was not a very good student because I cared about sports, not scholastics.

Anyway, Howard did not fit in with us "JOCS" but for some reason I did not let that stop me from becoming his friend. That was the way I was. I attempted to get him involved in sports so he would be a part of our group. Howard never became an athlete but he became a good friend to me and my friends. I have never forgotten him and I often wonder if he remembers me. I have tried to locate him, without success, but I will not give up.

Helping others has been a big part of my life. It shows up in many different ways. It is most rewarding to know that you have helped somebody.

We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.

Remember to do something good and positive for someone today in the knowing they can never repay you and watch the world change one person at a time.

Positive Thinking - It's Not in the Self-Help Section

Some people never consider where to obtain the most positive reading. It isn't in the self-help or psychology shelves of your favorite bookstore. It's in the children's section.

Want to find out how to play nicely and get along with others?
Read a children's book.

Want to learn how to have meaningful and respectful relationships? You guessed it.
Pick up a children's book!

What is it about relationships anyway? Don't people want be happy, have more meaningful relationships and feel a sense of calm in a world where chronic anxiety is at an all-time high? The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, defines relationships as "a state of connectedness between people". So why do we often feel so disconnected, so negative, so unrelated? What can we do to change our train of thought and enable ourselves to make the choice to live positively and make the most out of our relationships and our lives? There's a simple answer - it's a matter of going back to basics.

In this ever changing, high tech world, we all stall from time to time and that's because technology makes it easy for us to function without putting out very much effort. However, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually this isn't possible. There is no technical miracle that will help us to enrich our lives, issues and relationships. Whether it's a weight control issue, a friend/family oriented obstacle, work related problem or something as simple as adding another mile onto the morning jog, none of us is exempt from stalling therefore, we need a coping mechanism. Some experts suggest visualization, hypnosis, journal writing, and daily affirmations to get us though these moments. My suggestion to those who have tried these options without success is to open their minds and a children's book!

Consider the motivating classics like "Oh the Places You'll Go, by Dr. Seuss, or The Little Engine that Could, by Watty Piper. How many people do you know still recite the phrase, "I think I can, I think I can"? Guilty as charged.

Patrick Wanis, Author, Human Behavior Expert and Life Coach, puts it simply in his book entitled "How to Get What You Want":

"When you change a limiting, negative belief into a positive belief you are changing the dynamics of your inner vibration, your energy. Change your beliefs and you change your reality."

A children's story allows us the possibility to change our reality because of the automatic suspension of disbelief - there is no fluff or psycho-babble to camouflage the message. More importantly, because we know that what we are reading is fiction, we naturally suspend our skepticism, cynicism and doubt. We become open to the message. We become open to change.

Therefore the piece to the puzzle of positive thinking, positive loving and positive living can be in a single word, a single thought, a single choice and it also just may be in children's book.

Documents Required For Filing a Wrongful Death Lawsuit

When someone dies as a direct result of the misconduct, neglect, malpractice, or omission of care of another party, that person has been the victim of a wrongful death. When this occurs in the New York City boroughs of the Bronx and Brooklyn, the immediate family of the deceased is legally allowed to pursue wrongful death personal injury litigation.

When this occurs, the spouse, parents, and in some instances, children of the decedent should retain personal injury lawyers to assist with the process of filing a lawsuit.

While the families of the deceased may be tempted to go it alone, only an experienced personal injury lawyer can guide them through the obstacles necessary to successfully initiate personal injury lawsuits in New York state.

New York Accident Claims and Settlements

In order to win a wrongful death claim, you must provide documentation proving the following:

The death of your immediate family member
This death was caused through any of the following:
Negligence
Misconduct
Medical malpractice
Willful omission of care
That existing family members are suffering financial distress or financial loss as a direct result of the death

Should you win the case, the amount of damages you receive varies based on the particular details of your case. Additional documentation necessary to determine damages in a wrongful death case include but is not limited to the following:

Medical treatment costs for the deceased
Funeral costs
Documentation proving loss of wages of the deceased, including future earnings
Proof of physical or emotional damages
Common law damages
