Even for seasoned New Yorkers, preparing a list of 'Must Do Things' in New York City for a first time visitor is a tough job. There are so many things to do and so many places to go. Places like the Times Square, Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge are on every visitor's list. But, there are some treasured activities that you simply must indulge in when you're here.

Shopping:
The best part of being a tourist is your chance to indulge in a shopping spree. You can buy gifts for people at home and pamper yourself with all sorts of things. You can find some of the best department stores at Bloomingdale, Barney's, Henri and Lord & Taylor. During the sale season, prices are unbeatable. For discount shopping, you cannot miss Century 21, Gabay's Outlet and Syms. If chocolates are your thing, drop in at Jacques Torres boutiques, Hershey's and La Maison du Chocolate (at Rockefeller Center). In fact, chocolate hunting is one of the most interesting things to do in New York City.

Tour:
If touring is in your blood, then, you cannot miss the Rockefeller Center. A lot of activities and sights are in store for you here. This is the place to go if you want to see a humongous Christmas tree. You can also enjoy wonderful shopping and eating experiences. The Botanical Garden is the place to visit if you are a Nature lover. The Broadway Center is for techies. Kids too will enjoy the video games and the interactive experiences provided here. If, on the other hand, you're in love with the printed work, a visit to the public library is a must. If you are visiting NYC with your children, one of the best things to do in New York would be to take them to the Bronx Zoo where upwards of 6,000 species are waiting to entertain them. Another fun zone for kids would be Staten Island where you can hit the beach and even see family friendly concerts.

Eat:
New Yorkers are foodies. In fact, New York offers food tasting and walking tours. The Rockefeller center has great variety of dining experiences in store for the traveler, including La Maison du Chocolat, Rainbow Room, Sea Grill and so on.

Sports:
New Yorkers love a great game. So, do not miss shouting with fans whether it's basketball, baseball, hockey or boxing. The adrenalin rush at some of the stadiums has to be seen to be believed.
